What is the 27 club?
The 27th Club is basically a name to refer to the fact that there are many famous artists who’ve died in “mysterious” ways at the early age of 27. Over the years after very big names like Robert Johnson, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain have died in this age, people began to say that there is something behind this phenomenon and therefore it was given a name.
Stories about it
When I was a little boy and believed everything that people would say, I’d hear lots of stories about this club, everyone would say something different and strange.
Fairy tales – the stories I heard about it
- The recording managers killed them on purpose in order to make them a legend and continue to earn from their music
- Some would say that they are still alive and they would come back one day.
- They all sold their souls to the devil to be famous and that is why they all died at the same age after a musical breakthrough.
I think I’ve heard lots of other conspiracy theories about it; most of them were delusional.
Lucky for us we are in the age of freedom of information.
It’s no longer as easy to spread lies or stories as it used to be – today we can test anything with the internet and make sure what we hear is true in a simple search.
Why do I think this club Is bullshit?
As I’ve said before, freedom of information and thorough research.
I think because I’d heard so many delusional stories on the subject I really wanted to understand if there’s something behind it or if it’s just a story. So I began by picking my favorite artists who died at that age, read and learned about their way of life and the way they died.
I was not surprised to find out
In most of the cases it was the fault of the artists who simply could not cope with the publicity and crazy situations they found themselves in, which is very logical. Coincidentally I once wrote something similar; My personal experience of being an artist and dealing with the difficulties of life.
Being an artist or a musician is not always as fun as it seems.
It requires a lot of self-discipline and endless investment.
Many times art becomes the routine\way of life. maybe sacrificing your life for art was the idea and it may be what happened to our friends at the 27 club.
I would like to invite you to read this article – Being a musician is hard work & not always fun .There I go further in this topic.
